LA Sign Language by Patrick Martinez
Probably best known for his neon light sculptures and skate decks emblazoned with witty, hip-hop inspired statements – Patrick Martinez has been a busy man lately. In addition to unveiling a window installation at Factory 413 on Fairfax, he has also once again transitioned into the realm of film. His latest short piece, entitled “LA Sign Exchange,” is a self-proclaimed dialogue with the streets of the iconic California city during nightfall. Scored to an old-school jazz soundtrack, the film focuses on lights, the skyline, cars and (of course) neon signs both in windows of shops and of Martinez’ own creation.
