YSY House By AUAU

For the past ten years, AUAU, has been a driving force in residential architecture throughout Japan. AUAU is best known for their work with dynamic pint size homes, combining interesting design with practical function. The firm was founded by Akitoshi Ukai, who has given his life to the practice and education of architecture through his own work, in addition to being a professor at Nagoya University and Meijo University in Japan.

The YSY House which recently achieved a Good Design Award, is asymmetrical in form and fits perfectly to its rigid site conditions. The matte white exterior element is not attached to the actual residence, it merely acts as an architectural shell to the home. AUAU uses the exterior shell to create openings throughout the residence letting in natural air and light.
