Vinyl Toys Become Storytelling Sculptures

If you never understood the art of toys, then you must check out Coarse. The company began in 2003, when German artists Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk started a distinctive style of sculpting that looked almost as if they had chiseled and exposed their figures from rock. Their hand-crafted sculptures are beautifully photographed and packaged in a way that really elevates their work to a higher form of art.

On May 3rd, exclusively at coarsehkg, they'll be releasing a limited edition set (200 pieces) called Casting Shadows which plays out like a melancholy story. It wil sell for HK $2488 (or $320). You can see photos from the series below or read their interpretation of the story on their website.

Also, check out their sweet packaging with a slide-out box offering two sides of the story – each side opening with a fabric pull tag featuring each character’s name. Love the attention to detail.
